Dr Engela Niesing

 Dr Engela grew up on a farm near a very small town in the Northern Cape. Long before she had a stethoscope, she was playing doctor-doctor, with her dolls and the farm animals as her first patients. In hindsight, it was a sign of what was to come.

That early calling only grew stronger. Throughout primary school her love of caring for others was obvious, and in high school she joined the first aid team, assisting at sporting events in her hometown. It was there she discovered how rewarding it is to be the person people turn to when it matters.

She went on to study medicine at Stellenbosch University, graduating MB,ChB in 2012. She completed her internship at Leratong Hospital in Krugersdorp, where she gained broad, hands-on experience in a busy public hospital. Her community service year at 1 Military Hospital followed, with six months in Casualty and six months in Anaesthetics. These fast-paced, high-pressure environments taught her to stay calm, think clearly and put the patient first.

Since 2016, Dr Engela has been in private practice, and she enjoys every minute of it. Her patients are at the heart of her work, and she loves getting to know the people she treats. She has a special passion for children and takes pride in making them feel safe and comfortable.

Sports medicine is another great passion. Since 2015 she has been a Match Day Doctor, and you will often find her pitchside at Loftus Versfeld and other sporting events. She also regularly works as a Match Doctor at major Test matches for South African Rugby Union, at stadiums such as Mbombela Stadium, Loftus Versfeld and FNB Stadium, where quick decisions and a reassuring presence make all the difference.

In 2022 she started her aesthetic practice, and she has been building this side of her work with great success ever since. In 2025 she completed her Travel Medicine course, so she can now also offer Yellow Fever and other travel vaccines, helping patients prepare with confidence for their journeys.

Away from the practice, Dr Niesing spends her free time with her husband, their daughter and son, and their four Scottish Terriers, who keep the household lively.
